Okay, so I gave in and watched the first episode of True Blood. For the record, I'm not at all into the whole vampire fad. Buffy was THE SHIT, don't get me wrong, but I think Twilight totally ruined it for me...overbearing, male characters and the helpless little girl of a protagonist who simply couldn't do anything without the permission of her glittering hero-man (most certainly not that terrible S-E-X word, especially before marriage! What would Joseph Smith say?!). However, I've heard okay things about True Blood, so I gave it a shot. So far, I'm kind of enjoying it. Lack of ridiculous Mormon values (vampire fetishists? Weird as fuck, but it's better than nothin'), a better way of integrating the vampire myth into existing culture, and the ability to have a female protagonist who (a) will kick somebody's ass, and (b) will get her ass kicked in a parking lot.
I might be too quick to judge here, but I can at least say that this show is far better at telling the modern Dracula story than Tweenshite could ever hope to. |
